What teenager wouldn’t want to spend a summer on beautiful white beaches along the cool waters of Lake Michigan in a small tourist town?  Anna Richardson was sure she’d rather spend her summer back in the big city of Chicago instead of the “dinky” little town of Sparta.  After all, her friends from her fine private school were there along with her father.  Unfortunately, her mother’s move to Sparta after her parent’s divorce meant Anna had to move as well.

Kelsey, the only friend Anna’s met so far, is not quite up to standards as far as friends go, but it is certainly better than hanging around the house with her goofy little brother, Jacob.  Kelsey and Anna agree to help a local gift shop owner put a few things out on her shelves as she readies for the summer tourists.  But when Miss Tilley’s shop is suddenly vandalized, Anna and Kelsey find themselves in the middle of a mystery, including missing diamonds, a murdered millionaire and a dangerous crook.   Anna learns that good friends can wear clothes from K-mart and that life isn’t always fair, especially when her parents make the choice to move on with their lives away from each other.
